What is Needed to Unlock an iPhone from bmobile(TSTT)?

bunlock

This is a question that I am asked a lot and I have to keep answering it over and over so i have decided to cover it once and for all.

Can you truly unlock an iPhone from bmobile and is it free?

The short answer is yes.

As outlined by the Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (TATT) in Clause C21:

C21. Where terminal equipment which has been locked or otherwise restricted so as
to access only the concessionaire’s network or service is supplied to a user, the
concessionaire shall, upon termination of the relevant user contract in
accordance with Condition C20, and free of charge, remove such lock or
restriction. The concessionaire shall not supply (whether directly or indirectly
through agents or other retail suppliers) terminal equipment which has been so
locked or restricted to any user who has not entered into a service contract with
the concessionaire in respect of such equipment.

tl;dr – once it is out of the contract they must unlock it for you and it should be for free. This means that once the contract binding the said iPhone and apparently this is not limited to iPhones alone, is fulfilled they are obligated to unlock it. Now I am not sure about what are the terms of the contract you sign with bmobile but according to 2WNBoost at TriniTuner.com in his post, bmobile/TSTT should process it once it is off/out the contract. This unlock is considered a “factory unlock” since you can place any simcard into it and it will work on the network once the iPhone is compatible with the network.

He claims that if you are having any trouble with bmobile processing the unlock for your device you should contact the Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago via their website. You can fill out and submit a complaint form on the TATT site and this should ensure a speedy solution for the unlock. TATT will investigate the issue once you have provided all of the details and will advise you accordingly. I’m sure about the latter part since we once submitted an application for an iPhone that was still on contract and they emailed quite quickly verifying it’s status.

Users reported that it may take a week or two for the unlock to be processed and 2WNBoost reported that his iPhone was indeed unlocked.

This is the only known free unlock for the bmobile iPhone. You can also try imposter sim modules which cost money and I do not recommend this since you may or may not be able to update your device; jump through hoops to save your Modem Firmware (Baseband) and these things are generally only compatible with certain Software Versions and Basebands.

Since bmobile only recently got the iPhone, jailbreaking (an entirely different process from unlocking) would not source you an “unlock” for your device as the good ole’ ultrasn0w method would have expired; unless you have a ridiculously old iPhone 3GS that is older than the 36th week of 2011. To find out if it is indeed older than the 36th week of 2011 check out this article. Remember also that an unlock via ultrasn0w is not a “factory unlock” but a software based unlock. The unlock sourced from bmobile will last through software updates.

Thanks for reading and I hope you found this useful. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment and I will try to answer it. As stated before, this may also apply to other devices locked to bmobile and I’m not sure if this applies to prepaid devices or devices from Digicel.

(Thanks Maypalo for the unlock image)

the post up top doesnt help me for what im asking

      • “once it is out of the contract they must unlock it for you and it should be for free”

This means that once the contract binding the said iPhone and apparently this is not limited to iPhones alone, is fulfilled they are obligated to unlock it.

HENCE, once it’s contract was fulfilled by the customer who bought it in the first place, OR, it was bought contract free, first contact bmobile. Then, if you are getting issues, contact TATT as stated above.

  1. I got this web site from my friend who told me regarding this web site and now this time I am browsing this website and reading very informative
    articles here.
