Got a Xbox 360 Controller Battery That is Not Charging?
So guys if you have an Xbox 360 and you got yourself a wireless controller, I bet you have had batteries “dying” on you before. Fear no more, I have two quick solutions to fix this. The both worked for me for separate batteries. I have a white pack here in which the first method worked and a red one in which the second one worked.
First Method
I must say thanks to the guys at Gamespot and especially LightSpecter101 in his post there.
Basically using your play and charge kit, a controller and said “dead” battery pack, you put on your 360, plug in your play and charge kit and put the battery in a controller. Plug the play and charge kit into the controller and you should see the light turn red. This means it is charging. But quickly it goes green. Green means it is not charging. As soon as it turns green unplug it from the play and charge kit and replug it in again.
You must repeat this process until the red light remains on. The poster goes into detail as to why this is so via the link above.
The Second Method
Thankfully i came across this method as I have a red controller with a red battery pack (I must thanks to jadedmoonstudio for lending me his whole setup) and it simply was not charging! Youtube did have an answer for us. Thanks to fraviaseeker from Youtube, his “paperclip fix” worked well!
Basically there are six terminals and you take the paperclip and short the 2nd and 5th terminal (left to right). Keep doing this until the clip stops getting hot.
Then, put the clip on the 1st and 5th terminal and then 2nd and 6th terminal to reset the logic board. All of this is outlined in the video above.
What i did after was put the battery to charge and it has been charging for over 5 minutes straight now (red light woohoo).

I tried your trick but instead of it charging correctly my system won’t turn on now.
Thanks for the second tip. I was going to sit with my meter and try to figure out the + & – terminals to try to drain it. Could take some time and if you get it wrong you can damage the logic board. I’ll do a follow up after I’m done.
Its not my trick, its what I found online. And yea, its a bit iffy. I think mines are dead because I didn’t charge in a while…
My battery would not have any light at all, save for an initial green flash on the plug and play charge indicator. After draining the battery, as in the second pro tip, I am now successfully charging. Thanks B. Stay fly and get high.

I just broke mine open and charged the batteries externally. Tried reset but it still gets no light on the charger. Any other tricks?

Glad at least one worked man! Recently I had to do the same for a red pack and it took a few tries using the shorting trick and the plug and play kit.
This worked for me! I bought pinkl battery packs for like 1 dollar on amazon because they were cheap and from the first gen console. I recently encountered the problem where my charge light flashed green for a milisecond then did not light at all. You can see on the dashboard that there is no battery meter whole it was plugged in. Long story short all i had to do was reset the logic. I didnt even drain the juice and it worked!!!!!!!! I’m going to try this with the other battery pack which was doing this since it arrived from the store.

There’s another trick. Plug and unplug the usb cable in a pc?s usb port.
Aftert many tries red light should go red.

It seems these batteries fail for two possible reasons.
1. The battery is improperly conditioned (charge/discharge)
2. The indicator circuit is faulty, needs to be reset.
Either way, this fix solves both 😛

Just leave it in .. It charges, well at least for me it does
i just bought one and as soon as i plug it in it flashes green then no light, all batteries and charger are new none work?

The second trick worked for mine too. The battery is new but the first method wouldn,t work.
For me it destroyed it. If it was good in the first place. Tried the second method and the battery won’t light up on the charger at all now. Used to go straight green.
That’s sad. May be it wasn’t recoverable 😦
I did this to a few batteries a couple times. Try the 2nd method over and see if it works. May be it wasn’t reseted properly.
