Logitech Z-5500 Speaker Mods and LED Backlight Repair

So you got a set of these 5.1 Speakers and you think they are great.

Here is how to make them even nicer (or not) by some simple and not so simple tweaks.

First off,
Thanks to various threads, mainly this and this.

You can:

  1. Activate a Second Skin. To do this, put the device into Standby Mode and press Input + Effect + Settings + Mute together at the same time for 6 seconds. You can switch between skins by doing that over. This changes the volume control from a linear type to what appears to be an exponential one. The LED color of the Standby Power Button is now Purple from the normal Red.
  2. Enabling volume offset. To do this, hold the Mute Button and rotate the volume knob. This was there to enable the user to have the same level of volume across modes in case one was louder than the next.
  3. Displaying firmware version and resetting to factory settings. To do this, put the device into Standby Mode and press Input + Settings together at the same time for 6 seconds. This will display the firmware version for a few seconds and will also reset the settings to their original factory values.
  4. Displaying the digital stream type/mode.  To do this, put the device into Standby Mode and press Input + Effect together at the same time for 6 seconds. The unit will now be in Diagnostic Mode. It will display additional info once it is fed a Digital Stream.
  5. Boost Mode. Just turn the volume knob until you reach boost 11 and follow step 2 to reach boost 22 and you will reach it 😉 . It is not advisable to do so so do it at your own risk.

If you are having issue with respect to your LED and you can’t RMA it or warranty is over, you can more than try this which will void your warranty.
